April 30th, 2009UncategorizedIndoor rock climbing gyms are useful places for rock climbers to practice and stay fit. This kind of rock climbing is also preferred by many especially those who are not so keen to go out into the great outdoors to climb up rock faces or walls. An indoor rock climbing gym also has a set of rules targeted towards the safety of the individual climbing up the rock wall.
Safety Rules And Regulations
Most of the safety rules and regulations that are common among indoor rock climbing gyms are focused on the safety of the climber, the belayer and the other people around them. The enforcement of these rules and regulations are totally dependent on each individual indoor rock climbing gym.
Among the first safety rules and regulations that one can expect from an indoor rock climbing gym are those concerning the climber. The rock climber is usually obligated to wear the appropriate attire for climbing to avoid accidents. Rock climbing shoes are usually required for the more strict indoor rock climbing gyms. Since not all individuals are expected to have the right rock climbing equipment, such as shoes, some gyms or sports facilities have these for rent. Clothes of the climber and that of the belayer should also be snug enough not to be cumbersome during the actual belaying and climbing. Jewelry and accessories are discouraged from both the climber and the belayer to be on the safe side.
The belayer should also undergo a short training to be ale to function safely and efficiently. This certification can be for those who are seriously into rockclimbing for th safety of the climber and belayer. Some indoor rock climbing gyms have their own belayers to offset beginners with no experienced belayers. The belayer should always keep both feet firmly on the ground to avoid accidents. The type of tie or knot used for the carabiner and the harness are specified by the indoor rock climbing gym, although the most common is the figure eight follow through.
The style used by the climber going through the course is up to each individual and there are no set rules and regulations regarding these in any of the indoor rock climbing gyms. Competitions rules for each indoor rock climbing gym may vary with regards to how to establish a win but most safety rules and regulations are similar to each other. Each indoor rock climbing gym has the right to set their own rules according to their beliefs and preferences.
